Fall on the 172

I know that Fall on the 172 is being posted kind of late and I hope you can forgive me. I will not make any excuses, because an excuse is just that an excuse. I hope you enjoy this and please leave a comment.

Well summer is over and it is fall on the 172. The leaves are changing and so is life on the 172. We close our summer chapter and open our fall chapter. Here on the 172 that means more indoor stuff and less outdoor stuff. Believe me though, we milk all the outdoor time we can. We still have fires and cook out on our Traeger (grill). Even cooked our Thanksgiving turkey on the Traeger. We spatchcocked (a chicken or game bird split open and grilled) it so that it would cook more evenly. Man was it ever good and so moist.

Getting the Outdoors Stuff Ready for Winter

We fought putting away our summer table and chairs until we couldn’t wait any longer. But we did leave the umbrella feet outside. I hope they do not break, they are full of sand and water.

We brought our house plants in but didn’t bring our blueberries in because they hadn’t gone dormant yet. When I am writing this they are still outside. I hope they do not die. Eric says they are good as long as we do not get below zero. This is Wisconsin, not go below zero, right.

Dash Cat

We also got our new kitty Dash. He has his own blog. I hope you all enjoy his take on life on the 172. He is quite something. But I’ll let him tell you about his adventures. I will just say he is like having a 2 year old with claws and teeth. At the same time he is a sweetheart.

What!!

Gardens

What else goes on during fall on the 172. The gardens are done. All the veggies are picked and processed. We bought our totes to make our earth boxes for our tomatoes next year. We are going to do 10 of them. Eric said he thinks we can do either four or six in each one. I do not know.  Anyway, he is going to do five and I am going to do 5.

What goes on inside during fall on the 172

I am sure there will be a lot more crafting, tie dying, rock polishing, wire wrapping, and blog posting. Overall getting ready for next summer. As well as putting stuff on https://mccrorymercantile.ecrater.com/ and https://mustdye.ecrater.com/

Winter Project Plans

We also want to redo our pantry and rip the carpet up in the living room. More on those in another post. Wish us luck.

Apples

Fall also brings apples. We did not want to go to the same apple orchard that we went to before because there were so many people going there that they were picked out of some of the types of apples. So we did what we do best and went riding around. We just happened upon a place called  Sadie Bees Orchard. https://www.sadiebeesorchard.com/ . Here is a link so that you can check it out. It is a beautiful place and we were the only ones there besides the owners. It was pretty awesome. Anyway we got our apples. I made applesauce and Eric is making hard apple cider. I say making because it is still fermenting. He made me a gallon of regular cider as well.

New Job

My new job is going well. I really enjoy having an extra day off a week. It gives me time to play and do the things I want. As well as write to you all.

Missouri Trip

I almost forgot, we had to make a trip to Missouri because my step dad passed away. (please do not feel sorry for me) I am telling you this because we took Dash with us. I am sure he will have a lot to say to you about it. My family is doing fine and my Mom is coping very well. She misses him, which is to be expected, but other than that she is fine. They were married 44 years.

The season may have changed and life here on the 172 with it. One thing for sure: life will not be boring here on the 172. We always have plenty to do.
