Why Make Butter

“Why would you want to make your own butter, when you can go to the store and buy it?” My brother-in-law Owen asks me this question. (Not just about this, but about almost everything I make.)

My answer, why not. I know what goes into it. It tastes better, and have you ever had freshly made butter on a saltine cracker? It is great.

Not to mention, it does not cost a lot and you get buttermilk as well. Which is great in cooking or drinking or making soap.

One quart of Heavy Cream will yelled 13.35 ounces of butter and 10.85 ounces of butter milk. This will very. This is just what I got when I did it.

Another thing, you can make less using a jar. Put the heavy cream in a jar and shake until you have butter. Even though I use a stand mixer it is not required. So, if you do not have one that is okay, you can use a regular mixer or a jar.

Using a jar is a great way to get the kids or grandkids involved. There is nothing hard about shaking a jar. It makes them feel like they have done something great and they have. So why not give it a try. What would it hurt. The worst thing that could happen is there could be a mess.

I bought my butter safe from Goodwill, https://www.goodwill.org/, (great place to shop), but you may also be able to get one from an estate sale or by ordering one.

Who knows maybe this will spark their love for making things as well.
