How to make your own butter. (DIY butter)
Ingredients:
1-quart Heavy Cream
Salt to taste
Directions for DIY butter:
Mix heavy cream with a mixer. I recommend a stand mixer because it takes a while for the cream to become butter. You can use a hand mixer if you do not have a stand mixer. You can also use a jar and shake it, just use less heavy cream.
I put a towel over the mixer because you have heavy cream, heavy cream, butter. It happens very quickly and the end and can make a big mess.
Once the heavy cream turns into butter, I drain it. I put a white cotton towel in a sieve and let the butter milk drain. I freeze the butter milk to use later. (I make soap with mine).
Once the butter milk has drained, rinse the butter with cold water and squeeze it out of the butter. Do this until the water runs clear. Once the water runs clear, add the salt and mix it in well.
I put mine in a butter safe and wrap the rest in parchment paper. You can store the butter in any container you want. Store in the refrigerator.
You can not beat homemade butter on a saltine cracker. Life does not get much better then that.
